Right now Arizona is overrun with illegals. Arizona citizens are subject to kidnapping and murder. If you live close to the border in Arizona, it is likely that you will find your house occupied when you go on vacation or leave your property unattended for any length of time.
OTTUMWA, IA — Asked about his plan for undocumented workers at a town hall this evening in Ottumwa, IA, President Obama referred to “this law that just passed in Arizona which I think is a poorly conceived law.”
The president said, “you can try to make it really tough on people who look like they, quote, unquote look like illegal immigrants. One of the things that the law says is that local officials are allow to ask somebody who they have a suspicion might be an illegal immigrant for their papers — but you can imagine if you are a Hispanic American in Arizona, your great, great grandparents may have been there before Arizona was even a state. But now suddenly if you don’t have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, you’re going to be harassed, that’s something that could potentially happen.”
“That’s not the right way to go,” the president said to the crowd at Indian Hills Community College.
Those who suggested America (or the President) would enter a "post-racial era" after the 2008 election were themselves often racist people of privilege, who were hoping that the election of an African-American to the presidency could be an excuse to cease the racial dialogue in this country all together, rather than discussing our country's very real issues re: racism in an open and frank way. Regardless whether you agree with the sentiment of this post (I don't), asking a question like "Where is this post racial era of Obama?" is a moot point and a misguided accusation (passive-agressive though it may be) since it wasn't Obama who promised us a post-racial era in the first place.
